A guest post written by Anne Hughes from Malibu, California
Before one of my daughters was born, I was told that her position could make for a difficult birth. Arrangements had been made for her safe arrival at home with a willing physician and Christian Science nurses in attendance.
Right away I asked for prayer and guidance from a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me a statement from the writings of spiritual thinker Mary Baker Eddy (My. 232:6) “The right way wins the right of way, even the way of Truth and Love whereby all our debts are paid, mankind blessed, and God glorified.”
To me this meant that I could trust God to place this child and me in the very best way for both of us to be blessed. The night before her arrival, I felt movement inside me. She had turned around, and her birth was quick and normal. This was the very first in many blessings my daughter has brought to all who know her.
The assurance that “The right way wins the right of way…” helps me to pray for the world and for our country when the news is full of negative predictions. It helped me more than once when big changes were afoot in my life and I was led to new activities, new companionship, and productive employment. This same idea has helped my four children pay for their educations and be debt-free within a short time.
Just the other day I was headed for the airport in worse than usual traffic, and our friend who was driving me there said that he thought I would miss my flight. My reply was, “‘The right way wins the right of way,’ and I proved it!” I made it onto the flight and what I realize is that this was not human will or “Whatever will be, will be,” but an assurance that I would be where I needed to be at the right time, because there is a higher power, God. He runs the show when we trust in His goodness and power.
