A guest post written by Anne Cooling from Laguna Niguel, California
I read an article last week of a super virus that was immune to any antibiotic available today. It was of great concern to the medical field. The underlying fear behind this article has often tried to grip society throughout history. Christian healer and writer, Mary Baker Eddy, found that sickness was powerless to spread because of God’s nature as universal good, which maintains goodness in all of His creation. She wrote, “Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God.” While it is easy to look at the physical body and see life and think that life comes from the body, God’s healings throughout the centuries prove that God is life-giving. He doesn’t just give life; God is life.
I’ve found Eddy’s findings particularly helpful recently as I had been praying about contagious seasonal illness for myself and my family. I realized that defending myself from fear and affirming the source of health as coming from God was paramount to maintaining health. While my husband and I continued to express health, one of our neighbors who was struggling with illness came over. Our family dog did her usual exuberant showering of love that she has for this neighbor. Observing this interaction, I remembered watching squirrels outside busily going about their day while I was quarantined in college with the measles, and subsequently being healed in two days. I had thought of the fact that those squirrels were in the same atmosphere as I was and they weren’t afraid of sickness, nor were they getting sick. My dog’s interaction with my neighbor had the same expression of love, fearlessness, and health as those squirrels.
What I’ve found is that fear needs to be replaced with the law of God, Spirit, which maintains each of us in a higher, spiritual nature. This law of God’s love can be applied anywhere. It protected Florence Nightingale in her work as she lovingly cared for the sick. It protected me when I visited my father, who was being cared for with a virus. The nursing facility and hospital rules were in place to protect me, which I followed, but with the three moves he experienced, I realized I had broken those rules along the way as they had changed. But I was protected and he was healed, all while praying with the unchanging rule of God’s grace protecting me.
I find it’s wonderful to find God’s law of health!
