Question: How can anything calling itself Christian be considered science?
Answer: The Bible advises us, “Come, let us reason together” Isaiah 1:18. God, as creator knows His creation thoroughly, understanding and maintaining it precisely. So God, to start with, must be the supreme Scientist and taught His Divine Science to Christ Jesus who overthrew the material sciences in his healing work and ministry.
When we consider the variety of Jesus miracles, it seems that his work reversed just about every physical or material law of the sciences into “not true.” Healing the man blind from birth, he dissuaded the laws of heredity; healing the lepers, laws of biology; changing the water into wine, laws of chemistry; healing the withered hand, laws of physiology; taking money from the fishes mouth and feeding the multitudes, laws of economics; healing the insane man, laws of psychology; healing the lame, laws of anatomy; walking on the water, laws of gravity; stilling the storm, laws of meteorology; when he announced that the fields were already white and ready for reaping, laws of agriculture; and so on. We know only a small handful of the physical laws that he overturned; but if such laws were overturned by Christ Jesus, and we believe in his works and words and follow his instructions as faithfully as we can, then why not call it Christian Science?

WOW! That was wonderful. Thanks for sharing this Marsha. I have never thought about Jesus’ healings in specific terms of what material laws were being overturned. This will give me an opportunity to now consider in every healing I read about, hear about or see in my own practice of Christian Science what specific material law is being overturned by spiritual law. What a great way to start the New Year.
As a Christian I can ask myself what am I doing to overturn the “not true” material laws with spiritual law. Didn’t Christ Jesus say to us, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;” Well then what are we waiting for?
Thanks for pointing out all those “sciences” overcome. Great job.
Ditto on Pamela’s comments.
Thank you for this thoughtful post!
This article is an excellent proof of why the word “science” can be included with the word “Christian.” The thought of the two words together has mystified many people, and this explanation is perfect for setting the record straight. I shared this article with a friend whose eight-year-old granddaughter understood it, so its simplicity and clarity are reaching the younger ones too.
And the last comment, “…why not call it Christian Science?” was the perfect ending.
Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks, Marsha, for such a clear article, answering a question we often get. I’m going to share it in Sunday School.
