“The King’s Speech” is a movie worth seeing for many reasons, but of particular interest to us as Christian Scientists. The Australian speech therapist who healed King George was, in fact, a Christian Scientist, dedicated to healing. Note what various articles have to say about him:

  • “As a Christian Scientist, Logue was passionate about healing, and perhaps this, coupled with his background in elocution, lead to a role he assumed in London during World War I (1914-1918) when he treated returned servicemen who had speech disorders attributed to shell shock.” — Caroline Bowen (researcher, publisher)
  • Logue was a Christian Scientist — Nov 15, 2010 … Lionel Logue was a Christian Scientist and as the Sydney Morning Herald wrote: “As a Christian Scientist, Logue was passionate about healing” …Wikipedia
  • Jan 1, 2011 … Logue was a charismatic man, by all accounts, a firm Christian Scientist with faith in himself as a healer. … Logue, Lionel George (1880 – 1953)  – Australian Dictionary of Biography
  • LOGUE, LIONEL GEORGE (1880-1953), speech therapist, was born on 26 February 1880 at College Town, … A Christian Scientist, Logue was dedicated to healing. www.theaustralian.com.au/news

There’s no mention of Christian Science in the movie …but as Paul Harvey would have said, “and now you know the rest of the story.”

What a great feeling of universality shines through this blog. Am glad to be able to share the thoughts and feeling of freedom to share Christian Science with individuals as well as places such as the Interfaith Councils that I attend in my community.

  2. A beautiful film! How wonderful to know that Lionel Logue was using his understanding of Christian Science for the healing of every need that came up,from returning shell-shocked soldiers of World War I to the King of England’s challenges. Both Logue and the King stood for principle, which never fails!
